Employee Spotlight: Keri

A little about Keri…
Keri was born and raised in Massachusetts and is a lifelong Bostonian. Her favorite thing to do is hang out with her dog, Otis. More on him in a minute! Keri has been with the Urban Hound for 5 years now, and is one of the most valuable members of our team.

Where have you seen her?
Clients will recognize Keri as our Daycare Manager. She brings their dogs out to them at the end of the day and chats with clients as needed when they have questions. Prospective clients will recognize Keri as their tour group leader on Saturdays. Behind the scenes, Keri is always working hard to make sure that our play parks are the safest, happiest environment they can be for all of our pups.

Does Keri have a dog?
She sure does! Keri has a Schnauzer/Westie mix named Otis, affectionately known also as “Chicken” or “Chicken Wing.” Keri and Otis do almost everything together, and Otis’s favorite days are the days he gets to come to work with his mom.

What does Keri do for fun?
In her free time, Keri loves taking Otis for long walks and hikes. Keri does yoga to relax, sometimes Otis does, too. Keri’s favorite human is her nephew, Ryan. They have a lot of fun together watching old movies. She also enjoys traveling (most recently to New Mexico), and is on a constant mission to find the best tacos in Greater Boston.

Employee Spotlight: Kim

April’s Employee Spotlight is on the lovely Kim, who has worn many hats here at the Urban Hound, but has most recently moved upstairs to help out with training. Kim also works in the daycare, serves as a dog chauffeur, and fills in for our walkers when they need it.

While Kim’s achievements at the Urban Hound are important and impressive, we’re here to find out what she does in her spare time!

Once a bonafide cat person, Kim gradually morphed into a dog person after her commute to an old job brought her by the dog park everyday. Of course, one can only see cute dogs playing and having fun so many times before that feeling sets in. You know the one…the I-MUST-HAVE-A-DOG-NOW feeling.

So, Kim found herself a near-perfect little pup, the one and only Moose Pug.

Now, Kim and Moose spend most of their time together. Whether they are hiking, playing at the park, or having sleepovers with friends, Kim and Moose are happiest with each other. If Moose sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen him on Instagram or in our previous post, Moose Pug’s Hipster Christmas Playlist.

Kim is also an avid softball player when the weather allows. She is in two separate adult softball leagues and busies herself all summer with practices and games. (Yes, Moose is there to cheer her on.) Kim also loves traveling and is currently packing for a trip to Europe with her best friend. (No, Moose cannot join on this one.)

Kim spends the rest of her time with family and friends, camping throughout New England, and attending concerts and shows in the Boston area.

Employee Spotlight: Olivia

Olivia is a reformed former-cat-person and couldn’t be happier about it. As a young millennial, Olivia would always cite cats as her favorite animal in all of those important Facebook surveys. She thought it made her seem edgy and broody and sophisticated. Now, Olivia understands that, while cats are a truly unique and adorable part of the animal kingdom, she has always been a dog person.

As a toddler, Olivia spent her days riding the family black lab, Chloe, around the house and making leaf piles for the two of them to jump in together. In middle school and high school, Olivia’s family dog was a rescued cocker spaniel named Tucker. After Tucker, Olivia and her family decided their two cats, Mazie and Gracie, would fill the four-legged friend quota in their household.

Olivia went through the rest of high school and college a passive dog admirer. However, it didn’t take Olivia more than a few minutes into her first shift at the Urban Hound to understand that she could no longer suppress her inner dog lover. Their slobbery kisses and frantic tail-wags were kryptonite to Olivia, who knew that she had to one day have her own.

Now, Olivia is on a one-woman mission to make her rescue dog, Gatsby, the happiest creature on planet earth. In her spare time, Olivia fulfills this mission by taking Gatsby to the dog park, on hikes with his friends, and to their family camp on Moosehead Lake in Maine. Of course, Olivia documents all of she and Gatsby’s adventures in an attempt to make her four-legged son internet famous (@fourleggedgatsby on Instagram, check him out). Olivia also fosters dogs for Boston’s Last Hope K9 Rescue, an amazing volunteer-run organization that connects dogs from Arkansas with their forever families.
At the Urban Hound, Olivia has no greater responsibility than keeping your dogs safe and happy. Olivia serves as a daycare attendant, dog chauffeur, social media and marketing manager, and substitute dog walker, if you will. While Olivia has an array of previous work experience, her position at the Urban Hound is the job that has made her the happiest.

Outside of all of her dog-related experience and activities, Olivia enjoys reading fiction and nonfiction, listening to podcasts (a highly underrated form of entertainment) and spending time with her husband, Tom Brady.
