Your Dog’s Fall Bucket List

dog daycare boston urban hound

Never mind the 80-degree weather that has inexplicably encroached on our lovely Boston winter, we are in full fall mode here at the Urban Hound. Between our Howl-O-Ween Pupgrade in our spa and our First Annual Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest, we’re embracing the year’s best season. And so is your dog!

Fall weather means a nice breeze blowing through your pup’s fur, apple and pumpkin flavored treats and the perfect weather for snuggling. Here’s what your dog wants you to do with him or her this fall:

  • Apple picking: there are plenty of orchards in the Greater Boston area that will allow you to pick your apples with your pooch. There will be plenty of photo-ops, too, with all the beautiful foliage! Then, you can make yourself and your dog some really delicious treats with your loot.
  • Pumpkin carving: you should clearly carve your dog into your pumpkin and then take a picture of them both to show the likeness. Then, you can use the insides of your masterpiece to, again, make treats for your beloved Hound.
  • Raking leaves: you do the manual labor and let your dog reap the rewards. Rake those colorful nuisances into a huge pile and your pup can sprint through, roll around and cause a ruckus. Again, I promise you there will be some really great photo-ops.
  • Snuggling: do I really need to give you a reason for this one? Grab your best flannel, a cozy comforter and a cup of hot apple cider and grab your dog. A free and easy way to make you both very happy.
  • Hiking: Fall is the perfect time for hiking for many reasons. First, you’ll work up a little sweat, but the cool and crisp air will work wonders to combat it. You won’t be drenched from the summer humidity that we see here in Boston for a few fleeting weeks. You’ll also see some great colors in the trees and, if you’re lucky, a lot of your fellow dog lovers on the trail. THEN, when you get home, you’ll have a tired dog ready for a nap.
  • Howl-O-Ween costume making: Finally, I can guarantee that your dog wants to participate in our First Annual Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest. Why? Because they could win a FREE day of daycare! Craft, buy or borrow, we won’t discriminate! Email us your favorite picture of your dog in costume and we’ll put it to a Facebook vote. Happy howling!
