frequently asked barks

Is it OK to put a puppy in daycare?

Yes, early socialization in different environments sets puppies up for future success. We accept puppies starting at 12 weeks, ensuring they are fully vaccinated for health purposes.

Is doggy daycare good for dogs?

Absolutely, but not for all dogs! Dogs with social personalities can benefit from interaction and exercise in a daycare environment – it keeps them happy and healthy, especially if you have a busy schedule. While some dogs thrive with multiple days a week, others may only need one or two. There are also dogs that prefer to be home, and have a walker take them out versus being in the daycare environment. Please know every dog is different, and there is not one solution for all of them versus being in the daycare environment. We offer our temperament tests to see how each dog does in our daycare environment so we set them up for success.

Why do people board their dogs?

People board their dogs to ensure they are safe and well-cared for during vacations or emergencies when they can’t be around.

What is the difference between boarding and a kennel?

Boarding involves dogs staying overnight in private rooms (kennels) that are essentially their own bedrooms. We don’t use crates; our standard rooms are 4×6, and luxury rooms are 6×10.

What age is best for dog daycare?

As early as possible to promote socialization and adaptability. While early socialization is good, sometimes puppies just over 6 months can still have too much puppy energy for daycare.

Do dogs get tired of doggy daycare?

It really depends on the dog. As some dogs age, they might need less frequent visits, but we have others that come daily and are very happy to see their friends each day!

Is it stressful for dogs to go to daycare?

Some dogs may feel overwhelmed initially, but most adjust and enjoy themselves after a few visits. Stress levels and anxiety usually decrease as they become more familiar with the environment.

How do you introduce a dog to daycare?

We use a temperament test on their first day. Dogs arrive early, interact in a less crowded environment, and are gradually introduced to other dogs one-on-one.

How long does it take for a dog to get used to daycare?

On average, dogs take about three visits to fully adjust and come out of their shell.

Do I need to walk my dog before daycare?

Yes, please!

Can you take a reactive dog to doggy daycare?

We do not offer solo daycare. However, reactive dogs in our structured daycare work with trainers to address their issues. We are not currently accepting new solo dogs.

Do you provide food, or do clients?

Clients provide their dog’s food to avoid allergy issues. Our trainers do offer treats while working with the dogs in Structured Daycare and the Puppy Daycare programs.

Where do your clients come from?

Most of our clients are from the South End of Boston, many within walking distance. We also have long-term clients from as far as Gloucester.

What is the difference between boarding and daycare?

Boarding: Dogs stay overnight in private rooms and join regular daycare during the day, which is included in the cost.

Daycare: Dogs attend between 7 am – 6 pm and go home at the end of the day.
