Luxury. Comfort. Style. Community.
The Urban Hound at St. Francis House is a unique partnership between two industry leaders that have combined their expertise to provide a much-needed, new amenity to the Downtown Boston neighborhood and to create career pathways in the pet care industry through a remarkable new job training initiative, the Dog Care Academy.
This exciting new amenity is a daycare exclusively for dogs 30lbs and under. This space has been meticulously designed to echo the comforts of home, while also bringing a unique playfulness to the space. A mural of a rolling pasture and an astro-turf ramp are the focal points of the daycare, while comfy couches and plush beds give the pups plenty of space to relax.
Located at the corner of Boylston & Tremont Streets, The Urban Hound at St. Francis House is unbeatably close to the Boston Common. As such, each daycare dog will get two structured pack walks through the Common throughout the day. Dogs who visit us for half days will get one structured pack walk.
The Dog Care Academy is 6-month paid internship program which will provide skill-based training and create career pathways in the pet care industry for the men and women St. Francis House serves. Interns will spend 15 hours of their week in the Urban Hound’s facilities, getting hands on experience in all facets of the business. From learning to properly bathe and prep dogs for grooming, to perfecting the art of the down-stay, to picking up on the behavioral cues of dogs, our interns will leave the Dog Care Academy with so much valuable, transferable experience in the pet care industry.
The interns will spend the remainder of their time working in a classroom setting, and will hear from pet care specialists and other interesting speakers as part of a weekly lecture series, all designed to give them the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in the pet care industry and beyond. The Dog Care Academy will begin later this Fall.
