The Urban Hound and Great Dog Rescue New England

I love my job! I’m sure I have told you over and over again how fortunate I am to be able to do what I do.  I wake up every day happy to be working with dogs, and feel blessed to have the most amazing clients in the world. I have been in the dog care industry for almost 12 years now (wow, right?).  More often than not it feels like yesterday that I started walking dogs in the South End.

2012 has proven to be an amazing year for me. I was very fortunate to have made a connection with Betsy Herald and her team at Great Dog Rescue New England, and it has changed my life in so many ways.  I have spent the last year helping Great Dog by fostering dogs that they have pulled from high kill shelters in the South that were ready to be euthanized. We have immersed these dogs into our UH family. They stay at the hotel and daycare, go to puppy kindergarten and obedience classes to work on their manners, and most importantly learn to love and trust us. It is the most rewarding experience I have ever had. These dogs come in and we are able to treat them as our own. So much so that I come home every night saying “we have another dog that I need to adopt”. (Needless to say if I had my way, I would have a huge farm in the country where all of these dogs could live with me).

As the holidays approach, I hope you can all find it in your hearts to help animals in need in one way or another. Donations of food, blankets, beds and toys are always welcome at your local shelter. We are having a Photo with Santa Day on Saturday, December 8th from 10-4 where not only does your donation of $30 go right to Great Dog Rescue New England so they can continue to do the work they do, but there will be a Meet and Greet so that you can meet some of the foster pups that are looking for their forever homes. We will also be having a toy/blanket/bed drive at the hotel during the month of December.
